History of Palau Lo Mirador

King James 1 the Conqueror stayed at the palace on his way to the Courts of Lyon. John I, son of Peter the Ceremonious and brother of Martin the Humane, also known by the nickname the Hunter, passed the last night of his life in the Palau Lo Mirador, along with his advisors, including Bernat Metge, before dying in a manner never quite explained whilst on a hunting expedition in the forests of Foixà in 1396.
The second great period of splendour of the Palau Lo Mirador, was initiated by Robert Marquis. At the beginning of the 20th century, Robert Robert i Surís made plans to change the palace to a summer residence, with the airs of a Gothic palace. The nineteenth century architect Rafael Masó was put in charge of the renovation project to convert the ancestral home into a mansion of nobility. He took various architectural elements from different Torroella houses owned by Roberts’ family such as stones, vaults and the capitals of columns... all with the intention of maintaining the stately air. The building is called the Palau Lo Mirador because from its tower, which was the highest point of the village, the lords of the palace could observe and monitor the whole plain of the Empordà.
We invite you to experience the history of the kingdom of emotions and come to visit the Palau Lo Mirador.
